Your vision is one of the most important things you possess to navigate throughout life. Even though the eye is so small, it is a very complicated and complex. Fortunately, other than refractive disorders such as nearsightedness, astigmatism, and farsightedness, few things ever go wrong with ones eyes. There are, however, many things that can go wrong, usually as we grow older. Some of the conditions that can develop do so unnoticed until it is too late and the disease or condition is far advanced. Fortunately, many conditions are readily noticed and can be brought to the attention of an ophthalmologist early on. It is extremely important to have regular eye examinations to test not only for refractive errors, eye glasses, but to also rule out eye disease. It is recommended to have an eye exam every 2 years starting at about 4 years of age and annually after the age of 60 years old.
