Your Kids Might Have Vision Problems

If your child is having trouble keeping up in the classroom, it could be due to vision problems. Before the start of the school year, it’s always a good idea for children to have an eye exam to ensure they are seeing as well as they should. If you live in Sylvania, bring your child to Romanoff Vision for the pediatric eye care services he needs. For your convenience, we serve residents in Toledo, Monroe, Bedford, Temperance, and Lambertville as well.

Warning Signs

The following are some signs to look out for that could indicate your child has vision problems:

Squinting – Children squint when they are having trouble focusing on what they are looking at, whether close up or at a distance. If your child is constantly squinting to see, he could need glasses to improve his sight.

Sitting too close to a computer or TV to see – If your child needs to sit close to the TV or lean into his computer screen to see, chances are he’s experiencing problems with his sight. An eye exam from our ophthalmologist can determine if your child has refractive errors that are impairing his sight.

Head tilting or covering one eye – Sometimes children tilt their head or cover one eye to improve visual clarity. This could be due to problems with eye alignment or an eye disorder called lazy eye.

Frequent eye rubbing – Frequent eye rubbing when your child tries to concentrate is often a sign of vision problems. Red, itchy, swollen eyes are telltale signs that your child is constantly rubbing his eyes.

Short attention span – A short attention span or a lack of interest in activities that require close-up vision like reading, computer games, writing, and drawing, could be due to poor sight.
