Getting Used to Eyeglasses: It’s Not Hard but Does Take Practice

Getting eyeglasses for the first time and getting new frames and lenses have something in common: They both require an adjustment period. The jump from how you saw before to how you see with your new prescription takes time. During the adjustment period, you might have an odd perspective at the edges of your vision. You’ll get used to it eventually, but it can be annoying at first. Working with our licensed opticians can provide you with the right lenses and frame size, which will reduce this adjustment time.

If you need to get new glasses, Romanoff Vision can help you and other residents of Sylvania and Toledo, OH, and Monroe County, Bedford, Temperance, and Lambertville, MI.

Frame Size and Lens Thickness Make a Difference

When you get new glasses, the frame size and lens thickness will affect how well you see out of those glasses. Those tiny frames that were so popular back in the ’00s were kind of difficult to use because the odd edges changed the perspectives in the margins of the frames, which became very noticeable when you got a new prescription. Now, bigger frames, similar to those used in the ’80s and ’90s, are back in fashion, making the transition to a new prescription much easier.

Why an Eyeglass Chain Is Helpful

Eyeglass owners sometimes find it helpful to get a pair of eyeglass chains or cords. You will inevitably knock your glasses off your face a couple of times as you reach up to wipe your eyes or forehead. Having a chain or cord will help keep them from falling or breaking until you get used to your new eyeglasses.

As you get used to wearing the glasses, you’ll notice there are situations where you don’t want to wear them, whether because you don’t need them at the moment or they get in the way of an activity. The chain or cord will keep the glasses nearby and prevent you from forgetting to retrieve them when you’re done with what you’re doing.
